This was a poster design created for Amnesty International to raise awareness for unsafe abortions and their long lasting impact on women’s lives. The statistic on the poster also addresses the greater impact of the criminalisation of abortions.

Challenge

To get an important message out in a visually interesting and captivating manner. To leave a lasting impact on those who see the poster and raise awareness for the cause.

Solution

To get my message accross in an impactful way, I designed my poster based on the Amnesty International brand guide as this is a cause that fits with their mission. I based myself on their poster designs which are mainly type based. I added a striking statistic at the bottom to support the main statistic / message in my poster; adding emphasis on how crucial this cause is. I made use of a visual metaphor with the number 25 by using a hanger as the number 2. The hanger symbolizes a historical home method for self-induced abortions, which serves as an enduring symbol of the dangers associated with unsafe abortion practices.
